Wow! These past two days have been great! We are seeing so much of of Taiwan... Scott and I are just really enjoying being driven around and shown the top highlights of Taiwan! Yesterday, we went to the National Palace Museum. I was afraid that Shasha would be really bored seeing all the old stuff... but she is always full of suprises. She actually enjoyed it! We told her that all of the things on display at the museum were from Mainland China and she instantly became interested. She said that when she goes home she is going to paint a pretty picture and send it to Taiwan so that when it gets old they can put it on display at the National Palace Museum! What a little mind! The pottery was beautiful and I found myself reading every little card with all the descriptions on them. We had to finally speed up a bit because Mr. Yeh was waiting for us in the lobby and though he said take our time... it felt kinda awakward to be slowpoaking around a museum while he was waiting downstairs. While I was reading my books on Taiwan to get my facts of the day I found that the 2 biggest attractions at the National Palace Museum not to be missed were the Meat Stone and the Jade Cabbage... so off we went in search of them. It seems to be funny that these 2 precious artifacts are food. The line for the cabbage was long but after going into another part of the museum we returned and the line was gone. To me it was like seeing the Mona Lisa... smaller than expected and well not really worth waiting in line for. I did however buy a postcard with the Cabbage on it just because I wanted to remember the Cabbage experience! I followed the advice of fellow blogger Robin and bought some things in the gift store. I got some nice things and so did Shasha. She picked out a wooden fork, spoon and chopstick set. She says she will use the chopsticks to stir things! hahaha!
Then we were off to the Grand Hotel... and grand it was! This place is absolutely beautiful! It is just what you would imagine seeing when you are in China (or Taiwan). The roof was stunning and the carvings are beautiful. The huge purple orchid at the bottom of the stairs was stunning! Shasha asked if we could change hotels because she liked this one better! And I asked... there are 5151 rooms that can be booked at The Grand Hotel. Maybe next time... I mean one day we will have to return so Po can see Taiwan for himself!
We piled back into the van with Mr. Yeh and were off once again. We drove through the tiniest allies and side streets. To be honest, I was afraid for the people on the street! We wiggled at quite a fast speed through the narrowest of places. I saw a sign for Birkenstocks for just 95 NTD... I would have to wonder about their quality... being that is about $3.00 US. We finally eneded up pulling up to this little stand of a place and Mr. Yeh returned with bubble Tea. At first it was yummy. The "bubbles" were good and gummylike. But then I slurped up this goo kinda stuff and that was it.... I was DONE! YUCK! But I have to admit I had another one today without the goo... and liked it! We made it just in time to the Martyr's Shrine for the changing of the guard. That was quite the cool experience... kinda like the changing of the gurad in London. The soldiers at the entrance do not even move... I couldn't even see them blink... but i know they had to be blinking... right? What a neat experience! Mr. Yeh moved Shasha right next to the moving soldiers... I think she was afraid to move! But it made a good photo!
Last night we went to the Macaroni Grill for dinner. After trying all this local stuff on a stick... I just felt the need for something familiar! It was good!
Po slept better last night! I still had to have him fall asleep on me... but somewher in the middle of the night I wole up and put him in his crib and he woke up at about 7 am. We went to bed about 8 pm... so he had lots of sleep
Today, we went to Salu Town, Po's birth city. It was a long ride and we stipped at a park along the way. Mr. Yeh had been there once when he was small boy. The slides were made of stone... and they were FAST!!! Shasha went down 2 times but that was enough for her! We walked out to the end of the park and were starring into the face of the ocean's waves. How cool... Alex told us that if we wanted we could swim from there to Guangdong Province, mainland China! It was 80 miles away! We went to a little food shack on the beach and ate some really good food! Shrimp balls, squid and some kind of pork sausage.
Then we were off again to continue our trip to Salu Town. The town was a bustling small city. Lots of cars, busy streets and people! We first stopped at a temple and Shasha had her first squatty Potty experience! It was something to remember forever! Good thing she wore a skirt! As we drove through the crowded streets we looked at all of the young girls walking around the busy little city wondering if any of them could actually be Po's mom. That was a little weird but the thought of maybe catching a glimpse of someone with the same facial features made me look even more just to be sure I took everything and everyone all in. I took photos of everything... even the Salu Town Pizza Hut delivery scooters! I just thought that was neat! The people in Salu Town all seemed to be a bit lighter complected like Po. Just an observation. Mr. Yeh took us to a little hole in t he wall restaurant for a Salu Town specialty lunch. It was some sort of gooey dumpling with pork and sauce. It was interesting... I didn't mind eating it once but I don't ever want to eat it again!
It was a great day of touring... and long! We enjoyed it and though Shasha was a bit anxious about the long car ride she certainly survived. One thing that she said today that really struck my heart is... "Momma, having a baby is a lot of work. I don't like that he he needs you to do everything for him. You have to still do everything for me." I think Shasha and I will need a momma/daughter day real soon!
Boy so I love her! She is my everything... and Po, too!
See... I told you we did a lot these past two days!

You guys sound like you are having the best time. I'm jealous i WANT TO BE THERE TOO!
Hey Wilson football and soccer teams won last night: we had two headlines! Football beat Northwestern 57 -17 and soccer won in overtime with a pass from Chris Rodrigez to Brandon Mitchell for a 4-3 win over Northampton. I thought you needed a little local update!
Joe is checking with PSEA about your five days, but David talked to Mr. Wagner yesterday and he said you just need to fill out the paperwork for the five days and he'll work with you on the family leave. Either by extending your leave an additional week, or having additional days. So I may ask Joe to just leave it alone. What do you think?
The library has been really uncomfortably warm...yuck! You would hate it! I love all the pictuers. I have a Silfies family file on my laptop so I can see you wherever I go:-)
Tell Jenni I thought she was going to march right off with them in the one picture. It looks like she was contemplating it. I'm glad you are getting some sleep. Just when Po gets used to the hotel crib he'll have to re-adjust to home. But that's definitely one he can get used to .
Thanks for the gala apples in the frig...they we were so good that we are going apple picking today with Dylan. I hope to see you next weekend and then I can get my Silfies fix. It's just too QUIET without you, it sucks! Hey isn't that a song by Kelly Clarkson! Imagine that....
Love ya all,
Dawn
