August 9, 2009... Taiwan Fact #11... Typhoons and Taiwan

Taiwan's Typhoon Morakut has certainly drawn some unwanted attention to the island these past few days as it made landfall at Hualien, Taiwan. . In the words of fellow blogger Michelle, who is in Taiwan right now to bring home her beautiful daughter Tessa, "Darn typhoon!" (you can follow her story @ http://www.helloholanihao.blogspot.com/)
So today's Taiwan fact of the day is about what else... Typhoons...
Taiwan lies in the Pacific Typhoon belt. Typhoons are called chu-feng by the Chinese. Chu-feng means "wind from all quarters." Oh, and by the way... these dreaded typhoons occur from May to October, with July, August and September being the worst months. (Despite this fact, we are still keeping our fingers crossed to travel to Taiwan for our little Po-boy in September!)
