Many of Taiwan's mammals are unique to the island since they evolved in isolation from the mainland. The largest of these mammals is the Formosan black bear.

Another of these mammals is the Formosan rock macaque. The macaque is a primate with a reddish brown face and fur that changes color with the seasons.

The Formosan pangolin looks something like a cross between andarmadillo and an anteater.

The Formosan serow is a kind of little goat known for leaping big distances.

The Formosan cloud leopard is another unique animal but there has not been averified sighting of this leopard since 1985 so it is feared to be extint.
